Tivo Series 2

by Harris Martin

What is TIVO?

TiVo is not the only vendor out there then it come to DVRs. There is also Dish Network, or as their product is officially called, the Dish Network DVR. The amazing thing about this DVR is that the company has more units than any other company. So in a sense what TiVo started, Dish Network seems to be finishing. Probably the most likely reason Dish Network is winning this battle is the simple fact that they are giving it away for free as an incentive to purchase their entire Satellite TV package.

What is TIVO Recorder?

To say that TiVo is just another DVR doesn’t even begin to do it justice. Yes, the TiVo DVR records and pauses live TV. It records your shows and has them waiting for you so you can watch them when you want. But it does so much more. TiVo also offers the most advanced, yet very easy-to-use, set of features that you just won’t get with a basic DVR

What is HDTV?

TiVo is currently beginning the process of rolling out TiVo’s 3.0 software to customers. The purpose of this release was mainly to synchronize the versions of the various stand-alone TiVos. Some features that were changed from the Series|2’s original 2.0.3 version are improved wish list functionality, better TiVo suggestions, and other small features here and there, as well as the unsupported broadband feature and broadcast data download.

What makes TiVo better than everyone else?

You can’t extract previously recorded material. Keep checking dealdatabase.com over time to see if this changes:Make sure you have the TiVo behind a good firewall. There is no password protection on anything. It’s not that big a deal, but you don’t want people turning your TiVo into a spam box. Trust me: Don’t use the sleeper CD. Don’t use the two kernel monte hack. Don’t avoid making the backup.

TiVo looks to have a lot of problems. Is it any good?

You need both a TiVo DVR and a subscription to the TiVo service, along with either an existing phone line or broadband connection, a TV source (cable, antenna, or satellite*), and, of course, a TV (HDTV or standard TV).

Do I need to have a CableCARD in order for TiVo Series 3 HD to work?

No. TiVo Series 3 HD det-top box does not require the use of CableCARDs; however, you will be limited to receiving local and basic cable channels, ATSC digital over the air channels with an antenna, and analog antenna channels. You will not be able to access any scrambled digital channels without CableCARDs.

Can I install the CableCARD into my TiVo Series 3 HD by myself?

The difference between Apple TV and Tivo is that with Apple TV, you must download your materials from iTunes. With Tivo, you get your material from your cable television provider. Some people love Apple TV, while others feel it will never take the place of cable. This is why some people have the best of both worlds and enjoy both an Apple TV and Tivo on their television.

How the TIVO is builded?

The TiVo device is build with its own hard drive accompanied by its very own software to give you the power to record. It is smartly build to help viewers to record their favorite shows with ease. All the user need to do is do a little programming and the device will automatically record movies or programs according to the user’s choice.
