It is never too Late to Return to School

by Amy Nutt

If you are one of many people who initially made the decision to forgo post secondary education but now regret it years after the fact; maybe you started your college education but didn’t finish? If these circumstances describe the path your life has taken it is important to know that it is never too late to return to college and receive your diploma.

Receiving a college education is very important as many perspective employers seek to fill positions with highly educated and qualified individuals. Life and work experience was once sufficient enough to get your foot in the door and maybe even advance your career, however this is no longer the case. Now holding a college degree is a requirement for anyone looking to work within a specialized field.

An education never expires and will help open doors within your chosen field regardless of how long you have been out of school. Education is therefore extremely valuable for all those who possess one.

It’s never too late

The truth is that it is never too late to decide to go back to school. People of all ages and within all fields decide to go back to school or to become educated in a particular field. However, individuals who go to college for the first time or return to college are doing it because they want to enter a new field of work or they want to advance within a company they already work for.

However, the ideal college education is one that prepares the individual for work right away. This is a more practical and hands on type of education. There are still people in our society not working within their degree fields because they had no job placement assistance or they were not prepared in the way that they should have been prepared before they graduated.

Work preparation

It is not sufficient enough to have text book materials shoved down a student’s throat, handed a piece of paper, and told to have fun in the world. This can leave the student wandering around to find something in their degree field. What is good is when the courses prepare the student to work in that field rather than pouring the textbook versions of everything into their heads. What the student needs is a hands-on approach or some sort of interaction that allows them to experience what it is like to work in that field. This can also help the student determine if this is, in fact, the degree field they want to be in. They may have experience through work preparation that they do not like and may decide that the field they are studying is not the field they wish to be in after all. It is better to make this decision while in school rather than be stuck in a career they hate once they enter into the real world.

By being straightforward and preparing the student, this can result in less career changes and less students who are disgruntled with their college degree. This also results in a higher quality workforce because they know what they are doing before they do it. It minimizes training in new skill areas and makes the graduate more confident in what they are doing on the job. Uncertainty is one of the reasons why so many companies have high turnover. Work preparation can ease this situation and make the entire process and experience better for all of the parties involved. That makes one wonder why there are not more colleges and universities taking a work preparation approach in addition to filling the students full of knowledge.

by Roy Cuddihy

Creating graphics for websites or for printed work may seem like a daunting task for most people but little do they realise that it is not that difficult to create eye catching effects that will transform their website and indeed their printed work.

Most computers these days already have editing software pre installed and Adobe Photoshop is amoungst the most popular and widely used and has great tools installed to make creating your own graphics a breeze.

There are just three things to get used to using to enable you to create great looking graphics and the are as follows.

1: Formatting

2: Fonts

3: What Layer Style you want

Dont worry yourself at this point if you have never used any of the above before as it is quite simple. Here is an example of how to easily create a great looking header for any website.

1: Open up the editing software

2: Click on “New” at the top left hand corner

3: write “what a cool header”

4: Highlight “what a cool header” and click on font. Change the font to whatever you like.

5: Highlight text again and then click on “layers” in the photoshop menu bar, click on any layer that takes your fancy.

6: Lastly, resize to whatever you want..

And there you have it….a cool header for your website. There are obviously plenty of other things that can be done to further enhance your graphics such as adding multiple layers to your text to create a totally different look.

As you can see there are no complicated skills involved and over time you will be able to create any number of killer graphics for your website.

by Grace Freeburg, RN BSN

Registered nurses (RN) who want to earn their BSN degree, should now strongly consider online nursing schools. Many fully accredited and established nursing schools are offering their RN to BSN programs online.

If you are stuck on a waiting list at some other school, considering an online, out-of-state school might be the best decision you make for your career.

Not only is distance learning less expensive than attending a campus school, waiting lists for attending nursing schools are very short or do not exist. Online learning is ideal for working adults with family or other real world commitments.

The Internet is an ideal medium for teaching and communicating the academic requirements RN needs to obtain their BSN degrees. Any clinical requirements can be earned locally.

Learning online is also ideal, especially for motivated adults who know the value of an education. Classes can be taken anytime and anywhere an Internet connection is available. And lectures can be reviewed over again anytime.

Nurses who have a few years of experience know how unique their career ladder is. Few other careers offer the gradual and manageable career steps from CNA to LPN to RN to BSN and beyond. Working When working LPN’s or RN’s earn their BSN, hundreds of new career path open up to them.

Also, once you are a nurse, paying for nursing school becomes easier as well. Your employer will often have a program to help with your education, a financial aid application looks better if you have already proven that you have an interest in nursing.

It comes to this. A traditional educational path for nurses is not a requirement for success. In fact, many savvy nurses will find working their way through the nursing ranks is a preferable to the traditional waiting lists of today’s nursing schools.

Earning a BSN degree does not come at the expense of attending an inferior nursing school. Fully accredited and even prestigious nursing school degrees are now available online.

Finding the right online BSN degree is not hard. There are many accredited nursing schools through the country that now offer their program online. You can cut through the traditional waiting lists for nursing school when you are willing to attend a nursing school that may be out of state and offered online.
