Key Concepts In USB Turntable Design

by Chris Channing

There’s nothing worse for the aging vinyl records than the degradation that occurs after years of sitting, collecting dust. Even when confined to acceptable locations, a vinyl record only has a set number of years before it is virtually unusable. In such a case, music fans need to take advantage of technologies such as the USB turntable.

The technology that can empower one to turn their entire vinyl collection to digital media is the USB turntable. The USB turntable allows anyone to simply plugin a USB cable into their computer, and in most cases everything from there is automatically installed. It then becomes as easy as putting a vinyl record on the turntable, letting the turntable read it into digital media, and relax as technology creates a perfect copy of the audio.

As USB turntables have progressed over the years in technology, they have made several advances- such as allowing for the possibility of fast recording. In fact recording measures, the vinyl record is played at a faster rate than normal, recorded, and then the recorded audio is set back to the normal pace once it is saved. This cuts down on recording times that would otherwise take many hours for large collections of vinyl records.

Consumer should never be rushed in obtaining their USB turntable hardware, for they should always look out for accompanying software first. Music editing software will be incredibly necessary as many USB turntables will need to be altered on the audio level, from pitch to rate, or even to use stereo or mono specific sounds. Whatever the case, USB turntables should have support for such options and software.

While it isn’t required, some USB turntable systems will come with built-in speakers and amplifiers. These tools will allow vinyl record owners to enjoy the music anytime they want- and in many cases, while the record is even recording to the laptop or computer. This works well for trying to remember certain vinyl records for labeling and tracking purposes, but of course, isn’t a necessity.

For anyone who has previously had trouble with certain types of software or hardware, specifically Mac or Linux fans, there is room to rejoice. Many USB turntables will provide cross platform support for their brands, meaning anyone with a major operating system can enjoy the ease of use that comes from a USB turntable. Consumer should check with the specific brands before purchasing, however, as not all offer cross platform support.

Closing Comments

In the end, the USB turntable is one of few options available to those who want to extend the life of their vinyl record collections. It will take any vinyl record, record it digitally to one’s computer, and essentially give the audio an unlimited lifetime under pristine conditions. This is also a good idea for when making backups of vinyl records before storing them in a storage facility, or otherwise getting rid of them in some shape or form. Whatever the case, an apt solution lies within the common USB turntable.

The Art of Drinking from a Fire Hose

by Kenrick Cleveland

Every year around this time, I start a new cycle of classes and as usual, I’ve got some eager, excited, anticipating students, many of whom will (I can already tell) work themselves into a bit of a frenzy wanting to soak up as much persuasion as possible in a short period of time. As one client put it, “I kind of feel like I’m drinking water out of a fire hose.”

For those students I say, Stop! Take a deep breath. . . now let it go.

Persuasion is a process, just as living is a process.

This program can feel intense and content rich. That’s because it is. And when something is as intense and content rich as this, people can choose to become overwhelmed. Here are some suggestions that I think are helpful.

For students just starting out (and this holds true across the board from learning a new language to learning an instrument to learning persuasion), the first thing I suggest is LISTEN. Open your ears and let it in. Even for topics that are vast, which you don’t believe you are absorbing, be assured, if you listen, you are absorbing.

This learning is ongoing because A, there’s so much of it, and B it’s ever evolving. If you don’t get the opportunity of hearing something the first go around, you’ll hear it again later in the year or the next year, you’ll keep hearing things. Get it at whatever level you can and then start applying it. Then as you apply it, I’ll show you how to refine it and make it even more powerful.

What we are really studying here is human behavior. This is something you will hear me say over and over. We are studying human behavior, and since human behavior is not nor will ever be entirely predictable, we keep improving our strategies to be able to interact persuasively.

This learning keeps us on the leading edge all the time compared to those that have typical sales training as a background. People are individuals with different criteria, with different ways of interacting, and as such, the keys to unlocking their particular patterns are all going to be different as well.

Some of my students have been working with me for four or five years. Some have just started within the last month. There will be even more new people in the months to come.

Many new students have the expectation that they should be able to master persuasion immediately, if not sooner. I can safely say, I have not mastered persuasion and I’ve been at it for years. I don’t think this can be mastered as there is always something new around the corner.

Obviously, it doesn’t hurt to do your homework. Learning is going to happen in a variety of ways and the homework helps to install this information. So to my new student who was drinking from a fire hose, I said, “If you step back and have perspective on this, imagine yourself able to catch the spray from the fire hose instead of having it aimed straight at your face.”

Which Types of Leadership do You Use

by Joandra Evaline

Although there are different types of leadership styles, we can usually define leadership in two distinct categories.

The word “leader” usually brings to mind someone who is a leader of a group or an industry. We might also picture someone who is leading the way in business or in sports. The leader in golf would be someone like Tiger Woods, while Apple is the leading brand in portable music devices.

But contrary to what many people think, leadership is so much more than a person directing a group or leading in sports. Most people who try to lead groups will give orders or even try to trick people into doing what the “leader” wants.

Thanks to the more shady types, people learn to be careful around “leaders.” They’re not interested in letting someone trick or take advantage of them.

Again, there are different types of leadership, but the only worthwhile and long-lasting styles don’t involve tricks and distrust. If your followers get a whiff of any kind of deceit, you’ll lose all your credibility and the power that goes with it.

You need integrity in order to create trust in your followers. They have to believe you’ll do what you say you’ll do. You walk the talk.

One of the most common ways leaders hurt their reputation is by making promises that they can’t deliver on. It’s important to be careful about what you say.

Don’t worry about turning people off with cautious promises. In fact, people will have more confidence in you because they know you’ll only make promises you’ll keep. They will be better followers, because they know you mean what you say.

For example, if you were to promise a subordinate that you are going to give them a raise next year that is a problem.

A raise is often out of your hands, particularly if you don’t know how well the company is going to do this year. It’s better to think about approaching the subject of a raise in regards to your followers meeting sales goals.

Sometimes it can be very inconvenient to keep your promises. Nonetheless, even if they are inconvenient, it will only benefit you to keep them. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to back out of your commitment, you’ll need to apologize and find an acceptable compromise.

All types of leadership can benefit from incorporating integrity. Leaders who demonstrate integrity are a lot more successful.
