Sound Branding - Create a Sonic Logo

by SFXsource

Sonic logos are between 3 and 7 seconds long and are basically short jingles used for brand development. Basically these logos use sound to convey the values and personality of a particular brand. Corporations and businesses pay to create sonic logos in order to make the public aware of their brand and they apply these sound identities across many different touchpoints including television, mobile technology, radio, and the internet.

Before a note is played or any audio is recorded in the actual creation of the sonic logo by musicians and sound designers, there are other factors to consider. It is necessary to first research the history and character of the brand with which you are working. So that the finished sonic logo captures the brand’s identity, designers must determine the personality of the brand. The process of creating sonic logo includes the following steps.

1. The first part of the process is to understand the core values of the brand with which you are working. For instance, is the brand part of a particular heritage, promoting conservative values, or technologically oriented?

2. Second, do a little research into how the brand has used sound or music in the past to express their identity. Previous use of audio can give clues to the new approach that should be taken with a fresh or updated sonic logo.

3. Moving on, establish the types of sounds will best represent the brand’s values. For a cell phone provider, for instance, a variety of rings or button sounds might work well.

4. Subsequently, decide if the human voice will be part of this new sonic logo. Will there be a line such as “I’m loving it.”

5. Fifth, ensure that the sonic logo is unique and memorable since it is meant to identify one brand and one brand alone.

These five steps provide a basic outline of the important elements of the process of creating sonic logos. No matter what you do, make sure that the finished product is different in some way from anything that’s come before and that your client is proud of their new sonic identity. If you’ve achieved those two things you’ve done your job.

What’s All The Personal Branding BS about?

by Jay NaPier

Personal branding has become a hot buzz phrase for those in Global Resorts, yet so few even understand what a personal brand is. Most think that if they put up a website with video, they are now a personal brand. Well, I’m sorry it’s much more than that.

Where did the myth come from? I was coaching a prominent Global Resorts affiliate in 2007 and mentioned personal branding and video as the top ways to market and he took it to extreme. He wanted to know how I’d been winning awards and being on the top seller list. I didn’t have time to explain it all, but what I gave him was enough for him to “think” he knows what personal branding is all about.

When you think about top brands, you think Trump, Oprah, Jordan and Regan. Without saying their whole name, you know I’m talking about Real Estate, TV, Basketball and Communications. How did that happen?? YEARS of building personal brand equity.

If all this wasn’t possible, you wouldn’t be able to “Trump” the competition and Donald Trump wouldn’t be called “the Trumpster”. Years of brand building has gone into making Donald Trump the king of Real Estate Quality. He started with building blocks in his father Fred Trump’s office (also in Real Estate).

Trumps first project allowed him to make a burned out hotel into a beautful shiny building. His big goal of developing in Manhattan was a slow process that worked. Trump was not the billionaire first, he built his reputation first, which allowed him to move onto bigger projects.

Personal branding is about developing a reputation. It’s about building a track record. It’s about being the first name that comes to mind when thinking about a topic. I’ve been doing personal branding since 2002. People often tell me “Your Everywhere!” This has become a part of my personal brand.

The more you learn about personal branding, the more you’ll see how Global Resorts affiliates are confused about personal branding. You’ve GOT to be Unique. Yet, each website and message for Global Resorts is basically the same.

I do marketing coaching, that’s part of my brand. So, I spend 80% of my coaching time teaching my team members to market their global resorts business. Building a personal brand requires consistency, uniqueness, understandability, must be focused and must fill a need the market has.

Many have fallen for the Personal Branding, YouTube, and Google Adwords marketing plan. It’s a shame as they are not trying to make a profit from their Global Resorts business. They have become Just another Global Resorts affiliate.
