Watching TV on Your PC - the low down

by John Eley

A number of software packages are available to watch Internet TV. Get informed and make the right choices before you buy anything. There are several products on offer and so check them against what types of programs you want to watch. Are your viewing requirements reasonable and attainable?

What does TV on your PC offer? It enables the viewing of programs that are distributed via the Internet by the TV stations themselves via gateways. They may be offering the full service through the Internet, or they may be offering a reduced service e.g. by lowering the picture quality. That is their marketing choice, since they may be competing with their own paying terrestrial or satellite TV customers. It may or may not include all the content such as sport and movies etc that paying customers get. They may not give the full 24/7 service. If you have a TV on your PC viewing package you have to accept the quality on offer, particularly as you are getting the TV channels for free. However there are literally thousands of these streamed channels. Many of them are probably are there to provide advertising exposure for the paying service, some will be state controlled and so are essentially a form of propaganda, which may be subtle, totally biased or they could be impartial. Basically you have to take what you get. The thing is the more channels your TV on PC package offers, the more chance you might be able to access something that interests you.

Many people can benefit from Internet TV on a PC or laptop. However bear in mind you may not be able to get the latest top sport or movie action on a free channnel. Cable and satellite companies often derive their income from the viewers, but sometimes advertizing pays, or the state. If you are a traveller or an expat you will be able to find many news and current affairs programs, both in the country you are visiting or back home. If you are just a surfer then you will be spoiled for choice or maybe you are researching for work or study. TV on your PC is a mine of information.

When purchasing Internet TV software, there are many things to check. First of all is it legal? Make sure it says so in the sales information. It should show public domain TV programs, without any descrambling. A large number of channels should be available with some packages offering over 12000 stations. Usually the more the better, but make sure it answers any special requirements that you have. There should be a member’s area with updates so the package does not become outdated. Also Technical support should be on offer, preferable 24/7, with a guarantee. A company that has been around for several years may be more reliable. Read the hardware and operating system specifications to make sure your PC or laptop is compatible and has an adquate Internet connection. Happy viewing!

Keeping Momentum With Your Pay Per Click Advertising Campaign

by Brian Basch

You finally have everything together. Your have done your keyword research and have set up your campaign for the next 6 months. But here is the challenge, how are you going to maintain your campaign? This is something that many advertisers neglect to think about.

Ideally it would be great if you could just set up your campaign and leave it alone. However this will not work. In reality you will need to track and test every ad for performance. There are many ways that you can do this.

AdWords offers tools that’ll help you calculate what percentage of traffic an ad brings in. You can use tools provided by your web host to find out which ads brought in traffic that actually led to sales. Remember - no web spider ever bought a product.

So why go through this extra hassle? This is because, if your ad is not performing well, it is costing you money, and will not bring in profits. In other words you are paying for useless traffic. Even if no sales are made you will still be paying for each click.

Luckily you can rectify the matter and take steps to reverse a poor performing ad. If you have done your work right your ad will have a position within the first 5-10 pages of search results. If positioning is good then you should address the keywords for the ad.

Initially most people think of popular keywords before they consider anything else. They feel that they will drive lots of traffic to their website. This is true but unfortunately this will not result in sales, because it is untargeted. Searchers use these popular keywords when they first start searching but these keywords do not usually take them to where they want to go.

That means that people using these keywords are often not sure what they’re looking for. They’ll look at a lot of sites before they buy. Good keywords are general enough to be searched for by someone who’s not sure what they’re looking for, but specific enough to reach the audience that will buy your product or service.

Consider searching for your own keywords to see what pops up. You might be surprised by the other sites that have chosen the same keywords you have. Take a look at the top competitors for a word and analyze their sites to see if they’re in line with what you want to be associated with. If you seem out of place in a set of search results, it might be time to change your strategy a little. Remember, a bad keyword is only costing you money!

It is important to look after your campaigns and keep a close watch on them. This will give you an indication of how well your keywords are doing and which ones should be replaced. When you choose effective keywords you will have profitable pay per click campaigns that will help your business prosper.
