HD Video Cameras - Selecting the Right One

by Antoine Lindz

HD video cameras are all the rage in the new millennium. Even though prices may be higher than standard definition camcorders, consumers are still buying these cameras from the market. You may wonder what makes an HD video camera different from the rest of the cameras out there. Don’t worry! We’ll get to that soon. First, let’s talk a little about how it all started.

The History of HD Video Cameras

The HDV (High Definition Video) format was developed by JVC, Sony Corporation, Canon Inc. and Sharp Corporation. The huge investors at that time were JVC and Sony. You may say that these four companies were the first companies that offered the consumers HD video cameras. Nowadays, there are other companies that also make HDV hardware products, except Sharp.

The first to release an HDV camcorder was JVC. Their first camcorder was the JVC GR-HD1. It allowed the user to use a standard DV or a HDV using the old 601 color space standard rather than the newer 709 standard. And because of this, and other limitations of the camera, the GR-HD1 did not gain popularity as expected. JVC then shifted their HDV development to shoulder mounted cameras.

Sony was next to release their Sony HDR-FX1 camcorder on September 2004. Even though it was the second HDV camcorder to be released, it was the first of its kind to gain widespread popularity.

Then the market grew. Canon released a number of models in the market that were said to be for both consumers and prosumers. Their popular models are Canon XLH1, XHA1, XHG1, HV10, and HV20.

In 2007, nearly each manufacturer had 1 consumer HD camcorder. The leading manufacturers were Sony, Canon, Panasonic and JVC. Sony is currently in the lead because of its wide selection of models to choose from. Canon, Panasonic and JVC on the other hand may known be in the lead but are manufacturing multiple models for both consumers and professionals. However, the best HDV camcorder for the year 2007 in relation to performance must be awarded to Canon and then followed by Sony. Canon’s HV20 model allowed the manufacturing company to take the top spot in HDV camcorder manufacturing.

Editing Your HDV

HDV uses MPEG2 compression to fit HD content onto the same DV or Mini DV tapes. In this sense, they are somewhat difficult to edit. Splicing HDV for example, will distort the video at splice points because of the interdependencies between groups of video frames.

Editing HDV files also forces the computer system to work harder to perform simple tasks of cutting and splicing since the frames in the video do not actually exist as independent cells. So some frames may have to be rebuilt.

But there’s no need to worry since there are advantages to editing HD videos by using a Lossless Intermediate. The result is that the file will increase and you will need a bigger storage for your videos in your hard drive.

The HD Video Cameras are still the most widely used cameras for independent video productions despite its disadvantages. They can be used for professionals or consumers who are interested in making films, and other non-studio applications like news, and documentaries.

The 5 Bonuses of Earning a Living from Home

by Joseph Munzer

Many people today are sick and tired of working day in and day out to make other people wealthy. If someone is willing to do some research and investigation, there are many home based businesses to choose from. How successful they might or might not be with this home business varies, but the possibilities are almost endless. There are certain attributes, bonuses, benefits (you choose the word) that draw people to this avenue. After reading about some of these, you may also be drawn to a home business.

1. Taking Care Of The Children

Our children are such an important aspect of our lives and running a business from home allows a great deal of people to care for their children themselves. The cost of having someone else watch the children along with other issues regarding child care are no longer an issue. The parents can earn their living to provide for the family, while at the same time provide a true home for the children

2. Hours In The Car Dealing With Traffic

Home business owners are also able to avoid the joy of rush hour traffic during a commute to and from work. Working from a home office allows the individual to not have to worry about needing a vehicle during the day. This helps to save time and money due to lack of travel. With gas prices on the rise, avoiding a drive to and from work is a wonderful thing as more money will remain in the business owner’s wallet and not make its way to the fuel tank.

3. Additional Deductions In April

The difference between what the average person can deduct at tax time and what a home business owner can deduct can be quite substantial. This can lead to a greater refund or smaller tax bill (which ever applies). There are many expenses that a home business owner might be paying regardless as to whether or not he/she had the business, and they are only deductible because of the business.

4. You are Your Own Boss

Not having to deal with a boss is something that would probably please most people. Having supervisors always looking over your shoulder and scrutinize your every move will easily add a great amount of unneeded stress to one’s life. When you are in the position of being your own boss, your day to day schedule is in your control. This means that when your son or daughter has a game or recital, you can schedule your work around it and you don’t need permission.

5. Overhead Expenses Reduced

If one were to decide to take the work from home route, that person would have the ability to greatly reduce if not eliminate a good amount of some pretty standard overhead expenses. Employing an office staff and writing monthly checks to a landlord are now things of the past. Additional utility expenses such as heating, electric, water, phone and internet service are also a thing of the past. Sometimes we forget how costly it can be to furnish the office space. Again, this is now obsolete when working from home. If you look at this on a year after year perspective, you can really see how much money can be saved.

Although working from home does require a good amount of time and effort (it is still work), the positives that can and usually do arise from it really have the ability to improve the quality of life in many ways.

The New Executive Office Chair - A Revolution

by Fabian Toulouse

Do you have a favorite piece of furniture-maybe not something that attractive to look at, but so comfortable you cannot wait to sink in and get comfortable? Maybe it is a old lounger or a well padded arm chair. You work all day thinking about the moment when you can fall into that chair and relax. Just think! How awesome would it be if you could look forward to sitting in your work chair that much!

Maybe you can. When a desk chair is ergonomically designed to adjust to your body size you get a great fit and can sit comfortably for longer periods. Too many people are using chairs that are too large for them or with contoured back support that hits all the wrong places. Others suffer in chairs too small for them. There is no way you can work well when you are not comfortably seated.

With an executive office chair, you get handsome looks and unparalleled support for every body part. Bent wooden arms give it a distinctive look, but the most important feature of these arms is that they are adjustable. Everyone working at a desk needs to be sure their lower arms rest at the proper angle to minimize strain on wrists and shoulders. The seat and back angle, as well as height may be fitted, too.

Good lumbar support is a feature of this chair as well. How many times have you gotten out of your old desk chair groaning and trying to massage the murderous knot in between your shoulders or in your lower back? Part of it is probably caused by user error: sitting too long without a change in position, but your chair is also often a culprit.

Learning to sit properly will help you avoid strain on joints, muscles, and circulatory system. When you know where you need support, at what angle your wrists should be, how high your knees should be in relation to the seat, and other important aspects of posture, you can get maximum benefit from an adjustable chair. Obtaining an ergonomic chair, maintaining good posture, and taking frequent breaks to stand and move around a little will have you feeling much better when you leave work.
